Eva Fydrych

Interview with Eva Fydrych

Hello Eva

How are you?

Great! Thank you for inviting me to the Glamour Goddess Fashion blog.

Where were you born?

I was born in Krakow, Poland.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Krakow, but I always wanted to travel and see other places too, so
I moved abroad after I finished my studies.

What is your educational background?

I have a master degree in Philosophy. I also studied acting at the International
Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) in Philippines and New York Film Academy
(NYFA) in New York.

What languages can you speak?

I speak English, German, basic Italian and Polish – my mother tongue. I tried to
learn Chinese when I was living in China for 6 months, but that’s probably one
of the most difficult languages ever!

Where do you live now?

I live in Toronto, Canada, since September 2010.

When you were growing up who did you wanted to be?

I wanted to be an actress or work in a fashion industry and have my own clothing boutique. I always wanted to travel and see the world, so that’s exactly what I’m trying to do right now…
I always knew that I want something different and out of ordinary in my life. I
was always interested in other cultures, people, fashion and photography. I
wanted to have a job that will allow me to move from one place to another, visit
different countries around the world, be independent and enjoy life.

I also wanted to become a writer and that’s why I started my fashion blog in
January 2011 and I’m planning to write a book next year.

How would you describe yourself?

I’m open-minded and always ready for an adventure. I don’t like routine and I
get bored quite easily. Being an only child, I love my space and freedom and I’m
very independent.
Challenges and obstacles often motivate me, I don’t enjoy things that come too easily.

I’m a people’s person, I try to enjoy life and do what I love. I enjoy dancing,
music and having a good time, but on the other hand I’m ambitious and committed to
the goals that I want to achieve. I always try to grow and be a better person
every day. Having a natural optimistic attitude helps me to deal with difficult
situations as I always see the positive side in every single event. I believe
that we are responsible for our own life and happiness and it’s so important to
be grateful and appreciate what we have.

Fashion has always been one of my biggest passions. I’m addicted to travelling
too :)

Where and Who discovered you?

I was approached at Southbank by a scout from a small local agency in London. I
decided to give modelling a try and started sending pictures to some of the bigger agencies. My first contract was with Mission Models. I’m very grateful to Mr Robert
Barbieri for all the advice and coaching he gave me in the beginning.

How long have you been working in the fashion industry?

I have been in the fashion industry for quite a while now. Working in fashion
retail – for Mimi, Camaieu and an Italian designer Pamela, styling, modelling
and just recently – getting involved in a fashion photography.

What is your favorite part about being a model?

There are so many positive sides of this job… I enjoy wearing designer clothes
that I wouldn’t normally have a chance to wear, and having my hair and makeup
done for the fashion shows. I like the process of creating images – it’s usually
a team effort and it’s so interesting to see it happening step by step from just
a simple idea to the finished product.

I love meeting lots of new people every time and having a lot of travelling
opportunities. It’s a very creative job that gives a lot of satisfaction.

What is the hardest part about being a model?

I guess competition and being rejected are the hardest parts, especially in the
beginning. But after a while in the business, you realize that it’s just a part
of the game and your skin gets thicker.

What are the highlights, so far in your fashion career?

Being chosen as Top 18 in a World Supermodel Pageant in Australia last year,
working with Michael Gleissner in Bigfoot Studios in Philippines, appearing in a
Scene Magazine editorial in Singapore, photoshoot for iNuovi Cosmetics, having
two photography exhibitions in Poland showcasing my modeling work from Asia…

What designers did you work for on the catwalk or photoshoots?

The list is quite long… Let me mention just some of them: Harold
Bernard, Sandra Bamminger (House of Boeing), Antiform Industries, Mary
Ratcliffe, Nathalie Agnus, Mouille Beachwear (Sarah Turner), Fee Gee (Nancy
Dee), Kana Shiroyama, Lina – a very talented young designer from
Singapore, Rachel S.Lutz, Joy Couture, Vansheek and Regalia.

What designer or designers would you like to work for in the future, with whom you didn’t have a chance to yet?

I would like to work with some contemporary Japanese designers as I find their
work very creative and unique. I have just seen an amazing Japan Fashion Now exhibition in New York and it made me think about visiting Tokyo later on this year.

Do you travel a lot in your profession?

Yes, I do travel a lot both for modelling jobs and for pleasure. I don’t like
staying in one place for too long, so whenever there is an opportunity to
travel, I go for it!

What were some of your favorite places you had a chance to visit as a
result of your work?

Singapore, Hong Kong, Cebu & Mactan Island in Philippines, Phuket in Thailand.

What was your favorite look you presented on the runway or piece you were?

One of my favourite looks was for Mouille Beachwear during Wimbledon Fashion
Week in London. I also enjoyed the Mediacorp Bridal Show in Singapore. Probably
because swimwear and bridal shows don’t happen too often, so it was nice to do
something different.

Last week I had an Asian bridal photoshoot where I was wearing a traditional
colorful outfit with beautiful Indian jewellery.

What is your best advice for anyone, who is interested in pursuing
modeling as their career?

Be persistent and know what you want. Set clear goals for yourself. Believe in
what you do and be confident.

What is your fashion style, can you describe what you enjoy wearing?

My style is quite feminine. I love high heels, dresses and bold statement
jewellery.

I don’t like being dressed like everyone else, although I do shop in high-street
stores like H&M, Topshop or Zara. I try to combine their clothes with some
unique pieces that I buy while I travel. My favourite clothes come from
Shanghai, Cebu, Singapore, Bergamo (Italy). Wherever I go, I always search for
some interesting local designers and small boutiques that sell unique items
impossible to buy in other places.

Who is your favorite designer or designers?

I admire designers who have very distinctive personal style and aren’t afraid to
be different: Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, Issey
Miyake, Jimmy Choo.
I also like Italian designers a lot: Moschino, Cavalli, Prada.

Do you have any other passions or talents besides modeling?

Travelling, dancing, cinema, photography… I used to play the piano for 8
years.

Are you working on any other projects outside of fashion world?

Yes, I’m also involved in the movie industry. Right now I’m taking part in a
project for Canfar – Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research. We’ve been filming
for the last couple of days and it’s been a really great experience so far. I
managed to see a lot of interesting places in Toronto and the last day of
filming will take place in Niagara Falls.

What are some of your dream goals you would love to achieve?

I would like to write a book, have my own fashion boutique and travel around the
world.

What or Who inspires you in your life?

My biggest inspiration are my Parents who always support me in everything I do.
My Mum has a great fashion sense and I always liked her style.

I get inspired by travelling, visiting new places and talking to people. I found
a lot of inspiration in everyday life as well: city streets, fashion magazines,
music, movies I watch, random people I meet.

The Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho is one of my biggest inspirations ever. I read
all of his books and I found his life philosophy very interesting… I also
admire people who are successful and passionate about what they do – I always
try to learn something valuable from them.

Will you be making any appearances in a near future or this year in
fashion or in any other projects you’re involved in?

Yes, I have some exciting plans for this year. I’m planning to visit Asia again
and do more modelling in Singapore and Hong Kong. I will continue improving my
photography skills and working on my Fashion Studio blog which is getting more
and more popular. I have some acting projects coming soon as well.

Thank you Eva, for taking time out of your busy schedule, for giving a glimpse into your life and into the modeling world. I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors.

Thank you, it’s been a pleasure talking to you and I hope the Glamour Goddess Fashion
